Tutt Contracting’s story began in the early 1970s, when Preston Tutt Sr. worked on Fort Gordon Army Base and supplemented his income by demolishing homes and reclaiming materials in Richmond County. His sons, Princeton and Preston Jr., spent their summers alongside him – cleaning bricks, pulling nails, and learning the value of hard work and resourcefulness. Their first lessons in recycling came from collecting bottles and cans on the base, discovering early on that waste could be turned into something valuable.
What started as a family hustle evolved into a business built on grit, vision, and persistence. The Tutt family acquired and zoned their own property – despite widespread skepticism – and secured a rare Solid Waste Handling Permit from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. From salvaging scrap to landing major contracts, including hauling roll-off containers for the Army Post Exchange at Fort Gordon, Tutt Contracting has always pushed forward when others said it couldn’t be done.
Founded officially in 2000 and incorporated in 2003, Tutt Contracting has become one of the most respected waste service providers in the Augusta area. Still family-owned and operated, the company continues to grow through professional service, safe practices, and an unwavering commitment to getting the job done right. No matter how much we expand, we still can’t walk past an aluminum can without picking it up – because some values never change.

Early 1970s - Humble Beginnings
Preston Tutt Sr. begins demolition work and salvaging materials in Richmond County, often bringing his sons Princeton and Preston Jr. to help. The brothers first learn the value of recycling by collecting bottles and cans on Fort Gordon Army Base.
1980s & 1990s - Learning the Trade, Building the Vision
What started as a summer hustle evolves into a vision for a family-run recycling and waste services company. The Tutt family gains hands-on experience in demolition, salvage, and hauling.
2000 - Tutt Contracting Is Founded
With a truck, a mission, and a strong work ethic, Tutt Contracting officially launches as a local waste and recycling provider in Grovetown, GA.
2001 - First Official Project Completed
Tutt Contracting begins servicing construction and cleanout sites across the Augusta area, offering dependable roll-off dumpster service and building its reputation project by project.
2003 - Incorporation & Growth
The company incorporates as Tutt Contracting, Inc., expands its fleet, and begins offering recycling and materials recovery alongside dumpster rentals.
Today - Still Family-Owned. Still All-In
